Region 5 Activation
July 11th 2009
For the First Time in the State of Connecticut The State Animal Response Team Was Called Into Action.
The Dept Of Emergency Management & Homeland Security (DEMHS) activated the Region 5 team on July 11th 2009. The team was asked to assist in the care and feeding of 300 chickens and roosters confiscated from a farm suspected of conducting an illegal operation.
A net work of phone calls and e mails from a list of nearly 70 SART members generated more than 10 volunteers. The team worked alongside the animal control officers of the affected towns to humanely maintain the birds.
The activation continued from Sun July 12th through Thurs July 16th.
