Region 5 Animal Sheltering Exercise

On Saturday June 20th 2009 Region 5 CTSART held an animal sheltering & registration exercise in the town of Ridgefield.
The towns of Ridgefield, Danbury, Bethel and Redding participated. More than 20 SART members attended. The training reviewed "How To" set up a shelter and "How To" properly intake pets and complete forms. Guest speakers: Fire Chief Heather Burford: spoke about emergency management, Mr Dick Aarons spoke about radio communications and Ms Wendy Yuhasz spoke on animal handling.
A mock shelter was set up and actual forms and photos were processed.
The exercise proved extremely valuable in establishing protocol and preparing a core group of volunteers for an event. The template for this exercise will be used in other parts of the region to train CERT/SART volunteers.
